KENOSHA, WI—August 26th, 2016: At HarborFest 2016 LeewardBA announced they would donate computer systems to support KTEC’s implementation of an innovation lab. A former KTEC student, working as an intern for LeewardBA has been preparing the systems for donation. Today Soren Aldridge, a KTEC alum and LeewardBA intern is delivering and installing the fifteen donated computer systems at KTEC.
Michael Polzin, LeewardBA CEO released this statement: “It has been wonderful to have Soren as an intern this summer. The experiences and background he brought with him from KTEC and Lakeview Technology Academy made him a valuable asset. At LeewardBA we created an environment where he could learn through hands-on experience with technology. He more than exceeded our expectations. We hope we have imparted some wisdom and knowledge that he can take with him to Milwaukee School of Engineering. That he could spend his summer working on a project that gives back to KTEC and provides an opportunity for their next generation of students was a real added bonus.” KTEC’s Innovation Lab will be a place for self-directed, hands-on, physical, project-based learning. This directly ties into their Project Lead the Way program. The Innovation Lab will house all the necessary resources required for STEM learning and innovation: tools, computers, 3D printer, presentation equipment, meeting areas, and heavier equipment. This lab will allow KTEC students to take control of their own learning, as well as provide the opportunity for community collaboration. LeewardBA has been partnering with KTEC by enabling both a coding program and a Junior Achievement summer program, just recently. Throughout the coding program, students coded their own game and then deployed it to the cloud. The Junior Achievement summer program helped students go through the entire lifecycle of a business; they came up with the idea from scratch, pitched to investors, sold product, then shut down the company leaving the remaining profit for the next program to draw from. Supporting the Innovation Lab is the next step in supporting KTEC’s tool curriculum and maker skills.
